The call: I can’t verify any active public sandbag pickup/fill site in Escambia or Santa Rosa County today, Wednesday, October 7, so call before driving—these sites are only opened during specific flood events.

Real-time local factors

• The county/city searches returned no current activation notice for today.
• Escambia County Emergency Management: 850-471-6400 — ask whether self-serve sand or filled bags are open and for the nearest site.
• City of Pensacola: 850-435-1755 — confirm any city-specific distribution.
• Santa Rosa County Emergency Management: 850-983-5360 — for Gulf Breeze, Navarre, and Santa Rosa locations.
• Bring a shovel and proof of local residency if instructed; availability and bag limits vary by activation.

Runners-up

• Home Depot/Lowe’s: better if you need bags immediately and public sites are not activated; buy sandbags and play sand/contractor sand.
• A local landscape-supply yard: better if you need bulk sand for a larger property-protection job.

What flips this — an official county emergency-management activation notice is the condition that opens free public sandbag locations.
