Question

boating conditions today

Answer

Good boating day overall for Pensacola waters — light southeast wind around 5 knots and seas/waves 1 foot or less today, Thursday, August 6.

As of the 3:02 AM CDT NOAA update, the nearshore forecast for waters from the Okaloosa-Walton line to Pensacola out 20 NM calls for:

  • Today: Southeast winds around 5 kt
  • Seas: 1 ft or less
  • Wave detail: SW 1 ft at 3 sec + S 1 ft at 9 sec
  • Tonight: Similar — SE around 5 kt, seas 1 ft or less
  • Main caution: Any pop-up storms can bring sudden higher wind/seas and lightning

Local read: great for bay cruising, fishing, and nearshore runs if you keep an eye on radar. I’d still plan to be off open water if storms start building this afternoon.
