Good boating day overall — calm, but keep an eye on pop-up storms.

As of Thursday, Aug. 6 at 8:44 AM CDT, the Pensacola-area marine forecast shows:

• Pensacola Bay / nearshore: light winds around 5 knots
• Gulf just offshore: southeast winds around 5 knots
• Seas/waves: 1 foot or less
• Protected waters: smooth to light chop
• Main caution: scattered showers/thunderstorms possible, especially later or near cells — winds and seas can jump fast near storms

NOAA’s nearby marine zone forecast says for today: “Southeast winds around 5 knots. Seas 1 foot or less” for waters from the Okaloosa-Walton line to Pensacola out 20 NM (NOAA Marine Forecast).

My take: great morning for bay cruising, fishing, or a run toward the pass, but I’d check radar before crossing open Gulf water and stay close enough to duck back in if storms build.
